What's on at Gemfest

At Gemfest Festival of Gems you will find local, national and international traders who offer earth's treasures --- gems, jewellery, crystal, minerals, fossils and a large variety of other items.

The Exhibition Hall features the "Coolamon Mining Jewels of the Outback Exhibition' showcasing rare and magnificent sapphires, gems, and jewellery and treasures from private collections that can only be seen at Gemfest.

There will be all day live entertainment, a bar and plenty of food.

There is a separate program of gemmological presentations. See onsite jewellery manufacturing, faceting and lapidary craft demonstrations. You can have your jewellery & gems identified or appraised by our Gemfest Gemmologist Roy Beatie.

Each day, the New Royal Hotel Relaxation & Wellness Marquee will have a variety of therapists providing services at “Gemfest Mates Rates” & trials, there’s also a program of free workshops and discussion groups in the new sitting area at the festival site.

Join in the free clowning workshop on Saturday at 11am – also the Gigantic Bungy Trampoline is in action during the weekend.

You can join in the fun and have the opportunity to win thousands of dollars worth of wonderful prizes. Buy a claim peg and Stake-a-Claim, a cut prize is drawn on the hour every day with the largest gem and a holiday prize being the final draw.

Purchase a Gemfest Passport. Passports are $20 and give entry for each of the four days as well as a free entry into the Mega Multi Prize Draw. Thousands of dollars worth of prizes can be won.

Buy a ticket in the Gemfest Raffle for a chance to win beautiful jewellery which features local sapphires.

You can use our FREE EMERALD COACHES COURTESY BUS that calls into our major sponsors throughout the‘fields. It runs on the hour from the Miners Heritage Walk in Mine at Rubyvale, starting at 9am and leaves the festival site at Anakie on the half hour, concluding at 5.30pm. The Anakie Gemfields Hotel, RSL at Sapphire and New Royal Hotel at Rubyvale also have courtesy busses for patrons use in the evening.

Saturday 9th August – get ready to party!!!  “On Common Ground” is a free outdoor concert at the Rubyvale Mining Reserve – celebrating the Centenary of the Gemfields Mining Common - with live bands ”Aftermarth” “Doomphin (with lead singer Angie Robinson, who grew up on the Gemfields), “Hobo Magic” and popular local entertainer Peter Rooney.The Gemfields Sapphire Clowns with the Central Queensland Clowning School will perform at 7pm and at 7.45 pm there’s the “Miners Heritage Walk in Mine Fireworks Spectacular”! Keep warm around the bon fires – There’s a Bar & Catering operating – BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR and dancing shoes!!!
